Humanities Lecture: Marcus Bingenheimer

Humanities Lecture: Marcus Bingenheimer

Dr. Bingenheimer talks on his personal research on Landscape and Text in the Creation of a Sacred Buddhist Site in China. These texts are collected in “gazetteers” that have been compiled over the course of the last 600 years. The talk introduces the relationship between the site and its texts as paradigmatic for the process of textualization, which encodes meanings that are associated with locations in texts and thus encourages or impedes the development of further meanings.
